The all atmosphere: staff, location, food and services were the perfect combination for a relaxing and thoughts free holiday!
The grounds were very nice and well kept.
The staff were good but by Western standards, their over-familiarity can come accross a little irritating rather than being viewed as doing a good job. There were rats at the out door dining - I know it's an outdoor location and so hard to avoid but it was really off putting. I was staying for business for 2 weeks and the 1st week we, due to lack of availability, ended up in a cottage, which was very idyllic but I thought overly expensive. The hotel, although has conference facilities was not equipped for business people and didn't have things such as free wifi, which I know is a small thing but when you are paying so much for the accomodation, it should be something that is free.
ambiance and location of hotel is good.
Food is not good.
The hotel and staff are excellent. The foo on offer is really good and they have 3 places to eat which should cater for most pallets. Facilities are really good in every aspect.
Things I could pick at - the prices there are western prices and there's not much you can do as you are isolated due to the hotels location. It's about 20-30 nins from the outskirts of Chennai. If you're after just a beach and hotel holiday - great. If you want to wander into town or sight see, it's not so great. You should pay attention to your bill at checkout. I prepaid my stay when I arrived. Yet on checkout, the bill was very confusing. It included items already paid i.e. the room. The paid total is deducted at the end. It looked something like: Room 1000R Room Tax 50R Food tax 5R Drinks 100R Drink tax 5r Internet 6R Intenet tax 2R And repate for your days stay,,,,, Total 10,000R Less Paid 5,000R To pay 5,000R The problem myself and my friend found was two things. It was difficult to determine what we had to pay and having tax listed repeatedly made reading difficult. The worst problem was that we had both been charged twice for a room on the first night resulting in an extra 10,000 ruppe charge. This wasn't on the first bill we paid at check in. We had to get filtered bills showing just items we had to pay for less paid rooms etc and it was a battle with the staff showing them that they had made a mistake. They were adamament that it was correct until we had 2 bills showing just rooms and just extra's and that the extra's bill had a room charge that had already been covered on the original paid bill. If we'd not inspected the bill in detail, Taj would have made an extra 20,000R! You are likely not to spot it, it was only my friend and his eagle eyes. Bis trip was also a business trip, so he was shocked at the total of the bill and proceeded to pick it apart. Most people might not do this.
Showers were slow with not much hot water.
The stand alone cottages are spacious and extremely well appointed giving excellent privacy. The outside shower was a joy. The staff are all excellent and chatty.
There is little locally that one can walk to and the hotel cars are extremely expensive. We were offered a different local service but received this information too late to use it to see more of the sights in the locality.
Since the moment we entered the resort premises, we were made to feel very special. The warmth of the staff impeccable service and all facilities was a fresh change far away from city life. Everything just stood still here. We were very happy with the room, the whole estate and the lovely restaurants. For the four days that we stayed here we did not want to step out, sightseeing, shopping or for anything. All we wanted to do was relax and that's all we did without getting bored! The whole property was so comfortable and there was so much to do within it. It was an experience to remember.
We had some trouble in arranging transport from the airport to the resort due to language barriers and not knowing the city. The cab driver did not know the location and there was a major miscommunication. We did not avail of Taj pickup services as they cost quite a bit. It would be better if they offered airport transfers at a reduced rate to avoid inconvenience to tourists coming to their resort.
We stayed in Beach Cottage c14 which was right on the beach with a lovely outlook over the ocean from sitting area including a large hammock. Restaurants are very nicely situation in the resort and food was good. Rooms were large with plenty of room. Pool area was peaceful and enough sun beds/chaises. We were looking for some r & r away from Mumbai and we certainly did achieve this.
Cottage c14 was right on the end of the resort closest to Fisherman's Village. Security Guards where not always patrolling this border which had me on edge regarding safety of items in room. Right in front of this cottage, on the beach is large area of ground cover plant which had rubbish filtered throughout and was not a nice outlook. Staff did clean the sand but for some reason would not pick up from the ground cover area. This cottage needs some up keep for instance, painting of outside furniture, garden area replant and outside bathroom needing complete renovation.
i loved the location and the 46 acres of gardens, also liked the staff they were very friendly and well trained
the rooms were very old and outdated i would say maybe 3 star also because you are so isolated there was not alot to do, and its the first time i had to pay for wi fi, bathrooms are extremly small
Wonderful team that closely works to look after the guests.Special requests are really looked after with thought and care.A great property where the service and warmth of the staff matches up.The food is great. Will recommend it as a great short break from the hustle and bustle of Chennai;the short drive takes one to a different world
The activities are not too well planned, communicated or organized, possibly because the guests appear to be more of the mature couples or business travellers than young couples and children. An improvement on this score would be a welcome step
nice beautiful hotel with good services and helpful staff.
far from the city.
Stay was good. Above all Taj's hospitality makes me choose 'em all the time. Staff is very friendly and responsive. Rooms however are quite old, and not upkept like other 5 star hotels, but this a beach resort so you can live with that.
Grrrrreat place. Must expereince to believe it .
Possibly music at the restaurants ? Maybe some live music carribean kind or country music could add fun
Nothing much to complain, rather than price
We found the service levels to be excellent, we were traveling with 2 young children and the staff were extremely helpful in accomodting our needs, for example helping to sterilize baby bottles. We stayed in a cottage and it was a lovely setting.
It did a feel a little 'old' and could benefit from a refurb. There were also Mosquitos but the staff sprayed outside our room to get rid of them when we requested and as it was after the monsoon I don't think anything it's the hotels fault that Mosquitos were around.
